What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

I have gotten a ton of questions about trigger point dry needling over the last six years. What is it exactly? It's the use of a monofilament needle (aka acupuncture needle) into a muscle that is tight and painful or just not working correctly. We do not use meridian points like traditional acupuncture.

Is it painful? No! The needle is not painful. A "twitch response" commonly occurs, which is a great thing because the muscle relaxes. The twitch response feels like a cramp.

How did I find out about it? Physical therapists have been needling for years. Two years after I became a PT, I had hip surgery. I did great with my rehab but I had some left over pain in a muscle in the front of my hip. I had it needled two times and it was completely gone!

Does my insurance pay for it? Yes! Concierge Orthopedics is considered out of network. Give us a call and we can check your benefits for you to see if you are covered. If not, no worries, we offer reduced prices for people paying out of pocket.
